I read this article on Haute Wife Today about brand diversity and discrimination in clothing. It got me thinking about my own closet (or rather, my hanging rack – I live in a tiny New York City apartment with no closets) and the brands it contains.
When it comes to certain items, like jeans, I learned to be pretty brand-loyal because after years of trial-and-effort, only one brand truly flatters my tush. But of course my mind wandered to my skincare products, and I wondered . . .
Just how diverse are my skincare products?
Working at Hydroxatone means I have my fair share of our products (a major perk!). My favorite Hydroxatone products are Instant Lift Pads, Revitalizing Microdermabrasion, Gentle Milky Cleanser and AM/PM Anti-Wrinkle Complex. Sure, I’m pretty loyal to them because using them is part of my job, but I actually love what they do to my face. If I never started working here I don’t know if I would have thought to try these out.
That said, there is a whole other part of my skincare routine – makeup.
I wear foundation, bronzer, blush, mascara and occasionally eye shadow and eye liner, I’ve tried to be brand-loyal. I’d like to be – when I find one brand whose ingredients I like, I want that to be the final answer and stop all searches for anything else.
But I find myself disappointed when the brand that makes foundation I love so much has blush that is just OK. So I switch back to my previous brand’s blush and I am happy. I’ve been through this same song and dance with eyeliner and lip gloss as well. Each brand has their own strengths for my own needs, and it takes a nice marriage of brands to achieve my personal perfect look.
So I’d say that while I’d like to be brand-loyal, I find that a mix of brands works best for me.
I’d like to hear from you. How diverse are your skincare products?
